Welcome to Orange Crew

Overview

A downtown, a river, and the airport edge

Des Plaines does not work like the rest of the northwest suburbs. It has an actual downtown with two Metra stations, so a large share of the housing is condo and apartment buildings rather than detached houses, and that changes the job: elevators to reserve, docks to book, and management offices with their own hours. The river runs straight through the middle, and the basements near it have a long flood history. South of Oakton the map turns commercial toward O’Hare. Covered from the Rolling Meadows office.

How we work in Des Plaines

Des Plaines is the most mixed stop on our Rolling Meadows route. Postwar bungalows and ranches on the west side, a downtown of condo and apartment buildings around the Metra station, and the hotel and warehouse corridor running down Mannheim and Touhy toward O’Hare. Each of those is a different job: a garage clear-out is not a third-floor walk-up, and neither is a hotel refit that has to load from a dock after midnight.

What that means in practice:

  • Buildings, not just houses: Roughly a third of Des Plaines households rent, and much of that is walk-ups and elevator buildings downtown. We book the service elevator or dock with your management office before the crew leaves the yard.
  • Priced on site, before we lift: You get a fixed number based on the volume your load takes up in the truck, agreed in front of you. Stairs and long dock carries are factored into that quote rather than added afterwards.
  • Sorted, not tipped whole: Metal, electronics, and usable furniture come off the load before disposal. Water-damaged material cannot be donated, so if a basement has flooded we tell you that up front rather than implying otherwise.

Booking a Des Plaines pickup

Book online, call the Rolling Meadows office on (224) 571-9980, or text photos for a same-day estimate. If the address is an apartment or condo, tell us the floor and whether there is an elevator and a dock — that decides the crew size and the window we can offer, and it is the one detail that most often changes a quote on arrival.

7 Questions We Get Asked Most Often In Des Plaines

How quickly can you get to Des Plaines?

Same day or next day in most weeks. The Rolling Meadows office is about fifteen minutes west along Golf Road, so this is a short run and there is usually a crew already out this way. Saturday mornings fill first. If you need a set window rather than whatever is open, a day of notice is enough to pick one.

The floor, whether there is a passenger or service elevator, and whether the building requires the elevator to be reserved. Most managed buildings downtown do, and several restrict moving and hauling to weekday business hours. If you can give us the management contact we will book it ourselves. Walk-up buildings are fine, we just need to know the floor so the right crew size turns up.

Ask the city first. After a widespread flood Des Plaines has run special curbside pickups for damaged household goods, and if one is running for your street it costs you nothing. We are the answer for an individual basement, for material a special collection will not take, or when you need it gone before the next scheduled pass. Soaked carpet, drywall, and furniture all go to disposal, since none of it can be donated.

By volume — the share of the truck bed your load fills — quoted on site before anything is lifted. Access changes the labor rather than the volume, so a third-floor walk-up costs more than the same pile in a driveway. Heavy fill such as concrete, brick, and tile is priced by weight instead. Current ranges are on the pricing page.

Paint, solvents, gasoline, propane tanks, pool and lawn chemicals, asbestos, and medical waste all stay off the truck. Des Plaines is in Cook County, so those go to a county household chemical waste collection. Fully dried latex paint is fine on an ordinary load. Grill propane tanks off a balcony or patio are the item we most often have to leave behind, so set those aside before we arrive.

Yes, and it is worth saying which floor at booking. Two crew and an elevator is a twenty-minute job; the same appliance down three flights of a courtyard building is not. Refrigerators and freezers need the doors clear and the unit emptied and defrosted. Mattresses go to a recycler where the material allows rather than straight to landfill.

Regularly. The Mannheim, Higgins, and Touhy corridor is hotels, offices, and warehousing, and the work there is room refits, furniture and fixture strip-outs, office clear-outs, and pallet and packaging removal. Most of it loads from a dock rather than the front, and hotels usually want it outside guest hours. Give us the dock access and any time restriction at booking and we schedule around them.
