Orange Crew has hauled across Chicago since 2008, working out of an office on Peterson Avenue on the Northwest Side. The city grid shapes how the work runs: roughly nineteen hundred miles of alleys mean most buildings load from the back rather than the street, the bungalow belt runs to full basements with narrow stairs, and the two-flats and three-flats north and west have no elevator at all. Downtown is its own job, with dock windows and freight elevators to book. Beyond the city we also run the near North Shore, including Evanston, Skokie, Park Ridge, Glenview and Winnetka.
A crew of two or three arrives with the truck, dollies, straps and blankets, and does the carrying. Nothing needs staging at the curb first, though moving what you can to one room will shorten the job. We handle residential pickups of single items through to whole-property cleanouts.

Tell us at booking whether the alley is clear and whether any gate is locked, because an alley that cannot be entered means falling back to the street and a longer job.

Give us the building name and the property manager contact when you book and we will send the paperwork ahead. Some buildings only allow moves outside business hours, which we plan into the quote rather than discovering on the day.

A three-flat walk-up has no elevator, so everything comes down the stairs, and a garden unit means a narrow stairwell with a tight turn at the top. Sectionals and sleeper sofas usually get taken apart on the landing rather than forced around a corner. Mention the floor and the unit type at booking so the crew is sized correctly.
By volume, meaning the share of the truck bed your load fills, with the quote given on site before anything is lifted. Access affects the labor rather than the volume, so the same pile costs more coming out of a third-floor walk-up than out of a driveway. There is a minimum charge covering the truck and crew. Much of the city is residential permit parking, street cleaning closes one side of a block on scheduled days, and the winter overnight parking ban applies to certain routes between December and April. None of it prevents a pickup, but flagging your block at booking lets us plan where the truck sits instead of circling.
Asbestos, medical and clinical waste, biohazards, fuel, propane tanks, and anything explosive or flammable. Wet paint and solvents are also off the truck, though fully dried latex paint is generally fine. Chicago runs a Household Chemicals and Computer Recycling facility on Goose Island for those materials. Everything else on the load we will take.
The load is separated before disposal rather than tipped whole. Furniture in usable condition goes to local donation partners, televisions and computers to a certified e-waste recycler, and scrap metal, cardboard and appliances are pulled out. Appliances holding refrigerant are handled separately so it can be recovered before the unit is scrapped.
