Appliances containing refrigerant are handled separately because the refrigerant has to be recovered before the unit can be scrapped. What reaches the transfer station is the share of the load with no other route left.

There is no minimum number of items. There is a minimum charge, which covers sending a truck and crew out to Evanston from the Chicago office and works out at roughly what a single-item pickup costs. Beyond that, pricing is by volume: the share of the truck bed your load fills, quoted on site before anything is lifted. Access affects the labor side rather than the volume, so a basement load costs more than the same pile sitting in a driveway. Ranges are on the pricing page.
We cannot take asbestos, medical or clinical waste, biohazards, fuel, propane tanks, or anything explosive or flammable. Wet paint, solvents and garage chemicals are also off the truck, though fully dried-out latex paint is usually acceptable. Those materials need a household hazardous waste drop-off, and Evanston residents have county collection events available for them. Everything else on the load is fine, and if you are unsure about a specific item it is quicker to text a photo than to guess.
No, nothing is needed from you. The crew arrives with the truck, dollies, straps, moving blankets and hand tools, and does the loading. You do not need to bag anything, drag it to the curb, or stage it in the driveway beforehand, though doing so will shorten the job and can reduce the labor portion of the quote. Loading from the alley also keeps the truck off narrow one-way blocks where there is nowhere legal to stop. Mention it at booking, and tell us if the alley gate is locked or if a neighbor parks tight to it, because either turns a short job into a long one.
Yes. Televisions, monitors and small electronics are pulled from the load and taken to a certified e-waste recycler rather than going out with general waste, which is what Illinois law requires for most consumer electronics. Fridges, freezers and air conditioners are handled separately so the refrigerant can be recovered before the unit is scrapped. If you only have a couple of small items, Evanston also runs its own electronics recycling drop-off, which may be simpler than booking a pickup.
